UNIF Agroecology Learning Center breaks ground

The new University of Fondwa Agroecology Center officially broke ground in April of 2025, as students and faculty laid out the first of the demonstration plots.

In these new plots, they will experiment with growing key crops in ways that produce the greatest amount of food with low-cost, locally-available inputs.

As the blockades on food imports in Port-au-Prince continue, and as the effects of climate change are felt across Haiti, the Agroecology Center research will play an invaluable role in increasing food sovereignty and resilience for Fondwa and for the whole island.

The opening of the center was a result of Frédéric Sauvadet's three-month collaboration with the university. Read more about his visit here: Frédéric Sauvadet teaches permaculture in Fondwa.
